In the late 1980s, cousins Robert Diggs, Wu Tang Clan Friends TV show shirt Gary Grice, and Russell Jones shaped a gathering named Force of the Imperial Master, otherwise called the All in Together Now Crew.[12] Each part recorded under a moniker: Grice as The Genius, Diggs as Prince Rakeem or The Scientist, and Jones as The Specialist. The gathering never marked to a significant name, however grabbed the eye of the New York City rap scene and was perceived by rapper Biz Markie. By 1991, The Genius and Prince Rakeem were marked to separate record names.

The Genius discharged Words from the Genius (1991) on Cold Chillin' Records and Prince Rakeem discharged Ooh I Love You Rakeem (1991) on Tommy Boy Records. Both were before long dropped by their marks. Disenthralled however unbowed, they refocused their endeavors and on new monikers; The Genius progressed toward becoming GZA (articulated "jizza"), while Prince Rakeem moved toward becoming RZA (articulated "rizza").Raekwon's presentation studio collection, Only Built 4 Cuban Linx..., was discharged in August 1995. Cuban Linx was a different, dramatic epic that saw RZA move away from the crude, stripped-down beats of the early collections and towards a more extravagant, true to life sound increasingly dependent on strings and exemplary soul tests.
